Welcome to A Loose Plan

Type B plans for things you’ve never done before.

Most planning advice assumes you want a perfect plan. I don’t think you need one. And I think trying to make one holds you back from ever trying something new.

All you need to do to start is:

  1. Decide what actually matters

  2. Make a plan that’s good enough to start, and flexible enough to figure out the rest as you go

That’s the 20/80 approach. Decide the 20% that matters most to you, then build an 80% plan around it.

I plan product launches for a living, and I’ve realized I plan everything else the same way, loosely. Whether it’s a new job, a trip, a big purchase, decorating a house, an event, a hard season with aging parents, a pivot, or a new initiative at work. Different goals, same method.

What you’ll find here

Loose plans for work, money, family, home, travel, and the in-between seasons of life. Some are plans you can steal outright. Some are ways to think through what’s in front of you. All of them use the same idea: figure out what matters, make a plan that’s good enough, and go.

Who it’s for
